We are recruiting for an experienced Law Costs Draftsperson to join our successful Court of Protection and Personal Injury Team based in Sheffield.
Working as part of the Costs & Billing Team, and wider Court of Protection and Personal Injury Trusts Team providing a costing service in respect to bills of costs in conjunction with the Senior Courts Costs Office (SCCO) whilst acting in the best interests of the client.

About the role
- Prepare, submit and manage bills of costs through the SCCO process, including service on third parties.
- Monitor key dates and deadlines, ensuring compliance with all required procedures and reporting requirements.
- Work closely with internal teams and external stakeholders, including costs draftsmen, counsel and the SCCO, to support successful cost recovery.
- Review assessments, handle responses, appeals and negotiations, and provide guidance on best practice to maximise recovery levels.
- Maintain accurate billing records, spreadsheets and time recording, ensuring all information is up to date.
- Participate in relevant training and continuously develop knowledge of costs recovery and assessment processes.
Essential Experience
- Minimum of 2 years’ experience as a Law Costs Draftsperson in a Court of Protection Team.
Essential Skills
- Highly organised and self-motivated, with the ability to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines independently.
- Detail-oriented with a methodical approach and strong written communication skills.
- Positive and collaborative team player with excellent interpersonal skills and the confidence to communicate effectively at all levels.
- Professional, reliable and commercially aware, with an understanding of balancing efficiency with maximising costs recovery.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, particularly spreadsheets; experience of Costsmaster would be advantageous.
- Experience working to financial or billing targets and delivering against performance objectives is desirable.
